Summary of Application Experience
I made up for my weakness in clinical experience by focusing on practical things like preceptorships with docs, a job in a hospital and continuing lab research. It is important to be well-rounded and well-prepared before entering medical school.
During my interviews, I emphasized how much I had learned in the past year and I gained valuable experience I would not have had if I were accepted to med school the year before. A broader application net that included the east coast, a year under my belt and larger dose of confidence netted me some great interviews (three separate trips, the final culminating as two interviews in NY and PA) and a hard-won acceptance.
I'm excited about taking the next step to becoming a doc!
