At an early age I gained a profound respect and interest for the medical field from stories my mother told me about her life. She was born in Portugal and suffered a deadly disease,.... After my first year in college I decided to train in phlebotomy. Since I was enjoying medical training, I wanted to explore medicine further so I began volunteering at a hospital.... Caring for my grandfather in the last years of his life solidified my desire to become a physician. My grandfather battled lung cancer for years and it eventually took his life on.... My love of the medical field increased exponentially during this time seeing it improve the life of one I loved. I knew I wanted to practice medicine..... The nobility of healing and preservation of life without self-gain--this is what draws me to medicine..... Originally I thought I would apply to MD programs like my friends. I began exploring DO programs since the topic came up a few times.... Osteopathic colleges produce competent physicians who provide complete care to their patients while empowering them to take care of themselves. Their training....
