Brief Profile:
I am a Science Pre-professional Studies and Music (concentration in Vocal Performance) double major. I would ideally like to do a combined MD/MPH program because I love the idea of combining the focus on community and service that Public Health represents with a traditional MD program.
I took the MCAT twice, once on 3/27 and again on 7/08. First time around I got a 27O (PS: 9, VR:8, BS: 10), and I was devastated. So I signed up for a Kaplan Online Course and spent the first half of my summer studying while juggling two jobs and doing research. I was soooo relieved when I got my second set of scores. I ran through our Student Center shouting, \"I can go to medical school!!! WOO!\"
I\'ve got the usual pre-med ECs - research, involved with my school\'s pre-medical society - and a few atypical ones. I worked as a medical and office assistant for an ophthalmology practice for a couple summers and as an intervention worker for a hospital\'s asthma program. These were definitely great experiences because I got to really WORK in the medical field.
Being a music major, I spend a lot of time singing. I\'ve been in our opera company for the last three years and was totally blown away when they gave me the role of Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro this year! I\'ll be performing my senior recital in February as well. I also Irish danced competitively for 15 years at the International level and now do random workshops for dance schools and companies. I\'m Vice-president of our school\'s Irish Dance Team and will travel to Ireland for my 12th time in February to compete in a team dancing competition. I\'m also the director of a performing arts company on campus and work as a tour guide, tutor for student athletes, and as a student assistant in the community-based research office in our Center for Social Concerns.

5/15/2011 - I have officially accepted my spot in the UIC COM Class of 2011. I could not be more thrilled. Going in to this process, UIC was my #1 choice and leaving this cycle, it is still at the top :) I cannot wait to begin my medical career this coming August with all my other dear M1s. Students, faculty loved their school and were very passionate about medicine. New facilities & integrated curriculum, clinical practice from day 1... Ultimately, though, I chose to decline a spot on the waitlist after my acceptance to U of I. Chicago is my home and UIC just was the better overall fit.
