****I\'m doing this b/c I\'ve been lurking here (and SDN) a lot while being a pre-med. I encourage all successful apps to post their exp. as a way of giving back to future applicants.
My first MCAT was taken about a month before that:

Word of advice: Do not take the MCAT if you don\'t absolutely feel you\'re prepared. Schools generally don\'t like to see retries unless there\'s an improvement...which is NOT guaranteed.
**Extracurricular**
Physician Shadowing Prog @ ECU ~15hrs Got some good exps. to talk about during my interviews.
Hospital Volunteer ~30hrs Did this during sophomore yr. Not nearly enough to be substantial.
Research ~150+hrs Just emailed a professor at the med school to work under him. Got some free senior credits, awesome LOR, and a publication w/ first author. (that was the deal, I told him, if I was working for free)
Volunteer at local clinic - ~10hrs Didn\'t help my application b/c everything was already submitted. Definately, call your local clinic if you run short of ideas.
CNA - 10hrs Got certification b/c I thought it\'d be a good way to gain clinical exp. I went the 2wk fast track, definately not worth it b/c nobody hires w/o exp.
Part-time jobs - Didn\'t have any real ones while in school, but listed jobs I had just in case interviewers want to talk about it. (I had some funny stories lined up too)
