Summary of Application Experience
Reapplicant, retook MCAT, score only improved by 1 pt. Wish I had started the application process sooner. Each school I went to interview at, I made it a point to visit the surrounding area, staying several extra days. Made several of the trips with other individuals, sort of mini vacations, which made the time more enjoyable and took the stress out of the interview. I met and saw a lot of people during the interview season. Often times I felt my fellow applicants were much more qualified/ready than myself. Every student was different and had their own unique experiences and ideas regarding medicine. I can't imagine the headache of choosing a class of around 100-150 out of thousands of eager applicants. Sometimes they were hostile other times very open and friendly. Despite not getting in first time around, was still determined pursuing a career in medicine was what i wanted. If you are passionate about becoming a doctor, you will make it in, sooner or later, be yourself. Make sure you are going into medicine for the right reasons. Be honest and open and those interviewing you will appreciate your candor. I know i'm killing a dead horse but be yourself, I think my doing so was more important than my mediocre grades or mcat score. I'm no expert or ideal med school candidate, but feel anyone with the right heart and mindset can make it. Im grateful to finally climb up the first step.
