Brief Profile:
I made this profile so my friends, family and others can get a brief overview of my application cycle. If you have any questions, you can message me here or on SDN and I\'ll be happy to answer.
I’m a biochemistry major at SJSU. During my freshman year, my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away at the beginning of my second semester. At the same time, I was also involved in some legal issues concerning my ex boyfriend who was involved in a hit and run accident and documents said that the car I sold to him was STILL in my name. I was a huge wreck at that time, dropped out of school that semester, and almost gave up on pursuing medicine altogether. With the support of friends, family and a good lawyer (haha), I returned the following summer.
Ever since then, I joined a nonprofit health outreach organization and became a head coordinator. I spent 500+ hours shadowing/volunteering at the VA and El Camino Hospital. Research experience consisted of 2 summers at Stanford University involving hematology and cancer treatment. Other stuff includes TA-ing ochem/biochem, Vietnam missionary trip, etc.
Many people say that even with good stats, coming from a cal state school is a red flag/death sentence. However, with glowing essays and recommendations, adcoms (good ones at least lol) can separate passion from bull****. During the interviews, as long as you be yourself, speak from the heart, and don’t sound like a pre-programmed answering machine, you can seal the deal.
