Summary of Application Experience
I always wanted to be a d.o. because my family physician is one, so i didnt apply to any m.d. schools. This was actually the second time i applied to medical school... the first time was when i was a senior in college, needless to say i didnt get in anywhere. So i opted for a post-bac program and improved my g.p.a. I took the mcats twice and only bettered my original score by two points, so i stuck with what i had, perhaps taking a kaplan course would have been a good investment, my lower mcat score hindered me in the process. Anyway in the end i got into three schools, LECOM, VCOM and MSU, and I chose LECOM. (side note: i did not know that asians were not considered minorities until i applied to med school, so dont expect any extra considerations unless you're black or hispanic) Be prepared for the expenses of applying... primaries, secondaries, traveling, hotel rooms, food, everything comes with a price... in all i spent roughly $4000 for the two years applying to medical school. Final advice would be to apply early, make sure you are on top of everything: LORs, essays, transcripts, etc, and most importantly be patient. The application process can be long and stressful, but try and stay optimistic. If at first you dont succeed, try again, in the end wherever you go, its that degree in your hand that matters most.
