  • Brief Profile: I majored in Biology, struggled a little the first two years but ended pretty well. I was overly involved in service (alternative breaks and organizing large service events) and admissions (touring, orientation, and other things like that) on campus. I loved doing the service so I decided not to do research which I knew I would not love. I knew it was a risk but I decided I would rather not fake interest just for an application. I love to travel and have been to 12 countries thus far (7 of them during college on two different trips) and I hope to combine my interest in service with my interest in travel in medical school. I took the MCAT twice, going from a 23 to a 30, which made me happy but I really wanted that 8 to be an 11 too! I am now doing full time service through Americorps*VISTA (will have served two years by the end) and am so excited to go to medical school in the fall. I think that covers it all.

    Summary of Application Experience

This is exhausting but it will all be worth it once I get that first acceptance. I hope it comes before the new year...

So it is not going to happen before 2010. At this point I am on the waiting/alternate list at 2 schools, have a decision on hold til spring at another, am still waiting to hear back from one more and have interviews in January and February lined up. It is not what I wanted but it is better than rejection. I can only pray that the Lord gives me the strength to be patient...

Four interviews led to four waitlists! At the moment, I have four more interviews to go. I hope one of them will accept me without making me wait until the spring.

9 interview invites (5 complete so far), 4 waitlists, 1 acceptance (and possibly more) God is so good.

Now it is 10 interview invites! (so far have attended 7, withdrew from 2, and still thinking about going to one- only one more school to hear from but I am on pre-interview hold so I think it is a no go), 2 acceptances! and still 4 waitlists! I am happy, happy, happy!

In a nutshell, here are the events that completed my medical school application process...
I was accepted to the University of Toledo, the 3rd acceptance, on April 15th. I was invited to a second look weekend that same weekend which I attended. I went and loved the people and then decided UT was for me especially because it was the only in-state school I was accepted to (20,000 cheaper then the other schools I was accepted to). About 2 weeks later I was offered a full tuition and fees scholarship! God is so good. UT here I come!
