The initial excitement of getting into a good med school wears off pretty quickly once you remember that you don\'t have 300 grand stashed away. Good enough to get in, not good enough (or poor enough) to get money.
Summary of Experience:
Didn\'t feel like doing 5 essays with no word limit, so I never completed the secondary. Also, I don\'t like the condensed first year curriculum. It seems like too much work.
Summary of Experience:
A last-minute addition b/c I was nervous I didn\'t have enough safety schools. So much for being a so-called safety, didn\'t even get an interview! NBD, way too expensive. I wish I had looked up the price tag on Tufts before applying here.
Summary of Experience:
I have no connection to Pennsylvania or even New England, and I\'m not the type that would enjoy living in a rural, isolated area. I didn\'t have a good reason for applying here.
Summary of Experience:
I would have loved an interview from here. Amazing location in NYC, and serves a huge Spanish-speaking population. i think I would have been a great fit for this school. Somewhat surprised I didn\'t get an interview.
I would have pursued this further, with a letter of interest or something, but I would probably choose vandy over mt sinai because of difference in ranking and proximity to home.
Update: Got that coveted Mount Sinai interview, but had to decline since I\'m abroad. :\'( tear. Really sad about this, and my crushed dreams of being an upper-east-sider.
Summary of Experience:
It was tough to turn down this interview, but I didn\'t see myself choosing Northwestern over Vanderbilt (or Chicago over Nashville). Too cold/expensive.
Summary of Experience:
I\'m gonna be honest, I have no idea why they invited me for an interview. My application is not at a high enough caliber to actually have a shot here. I\'m not exactly thrilled with spending over 300 bucks for a school that rejects 80% of its interviewees, but I didn\'t want to regret turning down an interview at Harvard later on.
Post-interview: Loved the school, loved the people, loved everything unfortunately. Terrible interviews though. Might as well cross this off the list.
Summary of Experience:
Liked it a lot. It would be awesome to live in NYC. Lots of opportunities to use Spanish here. The Ivy League status doesn\'t hurt.
Cons: The dorms are just awful. I\'d really like to have my own kitchen and bathroom at this age. It would be fun to live with all your peers, kind of a throwback to freshman year. But this dorm is just run-down. Columbia is also not in the greatest location. Not sure I\'d feel safe wandering around Washington Hts late at night. Lastly, I would like to have an actual campus. I think I would have LOVED this school if the med school was attached to the undergrad campus.
Summary of Experience:
This is probably my top choice. Vanderbilt, however, has a little stronger national reputation and I\'ve heard is better with fin aid (though I guess we\'ll see about that in April). Nonetheless, Emory\'s location alone makes it an ideal school for me. I\'m not sure if Grady is a pro or a con - it has a very diverse patient population, but it\'s been through a lot of financial troubles recently...
Summary of Experience:
I actually loved this school and the college-town feel of Charlottesville. UVA is an absolutely beautiful school, It\'s hard and expensive to get to Charlottesville though. I\'m not too keen about going to a state school if I\'m not from that state. UVA is really expensive for out-of-staters.
Summary of Experience:
I can\'t put my finger on it, but I just wasn\'t that into this school. It\'s kind of in a random place for starters. The students there were nice enough, but I didn\'t really feel like I clicked with them. A lot of native North Carolinans. I got a very southern, preppy feel from the girls at least. Rankings aren\'t everything I know, but combined with these other factors, it just isn\'t a school I would pay private-school tuition for.
Summary of Experience:
I liked this school, I really did. The students were friendly, it has a great reputation down South at least, Nashville is a pleasant enough place to live. I\'m not too keen on spending another 4 years here to be honest. Also a very steep price tag. Don\'t know if I am willing to take out huge loans for Vanderbilt.
Summary of Experience:
Pros: The people were nice. Cheap. Cons: Augusta = Disgusta. Medical center was unattractive and rundown. No real campus. Students are all very scattered. I\'m sure you get a great quality of education here. But truthfully, the lack of a national reputation bothers me a little.
