    *Participated in a shadowing program while in college with the medical examiner for DuPage County, IL that included seeing his day-to-day responsibilities as well as observing several autopsies.

    *Worked as an Emergency Room technician at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, IL. Responsibilities included assisting doctors and nurses with major trauma cases, performing basic tests/taking vital signs on patients, and ensuring the E.R. remained in a clean and orderly state—Time spent: 1 year (MAY 2003-APRIL 2004).

    *Served in the U.S. Army as a combat medic, which included two full deployments to Iraq for a total of 27 months in a combat zone. I served with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from March 2005-March 2006 during the first deployment and the 3rd Infantry Division from January 2007-April 2008 during the second deployment.

    *Responsible for the health and welfare of platoon (20 personnel) both on the base and during all combat patrols, responsible for coordinating triage and evacuation of wounded personnel in the field, and participated in approximately 400 combat missions during both deployments. Routinely performed physical examinations and dispensed medications to the soldiers under my care.

    *Responsible for educating and certifying the platoon under my care in advanced first aid and basic airway management and ensured they stayed current with their skills.

    *I provided emergency medical care to many American and Iraqi military personnel on numerous occasions usually under combat conditions. I also provided medical care to Iraqi civilians in many non-combat related instances as well.

    *Acted as an advisor to my company commander in planning rebuilding of the only health clinic in south Ramadi, Iraq. I also worked with local Iraqi civilian physicians in evaluating the medical needs of their communities as well as how to enhance their medical clinics.

    *Helped train Iraqi medics in an Iraqi Army infantry battalion in advanced combat trauma care and introduced them to new medical techniques and equipment.

    *Assisted trauma surgical team while assigned to the hospital as well. Team consisted of a general surgeon, orthopedic surgeon, and anesthesiologist. Assisted in numerous surgeries as well as performed post-operative care for surgical patients.

    *While working in a military hospital in Ramadi, Iraq--provided advanced care to personnel evacuated to facility from the combat zone, duties included advanced trauma management, administration of narcotics/sedatives; EKG operation, I.V. management, and inpatient care for stays of 3 days or less, performed lab tests when ordered by physician-Total time spent as a medic: 4 years 1 month

    *Licensed as an EMT-B while in the army as well as CPR/BCLS certification—Time certified: November 2004-present.

    *Certified as a Field Sanitation Specialist and also responsible for the training of other non-medical personnel in the aspects of basic field sanitation.

    AWARDS

    *Chosen as Soldier of the Month for DEC 2007 by 3rd Brigade Support Battalion sergeant major.
    *Recognized by hospital company commander for swift action in helping to stabilize Colonel John Charlton, commander of 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, when he presented to the facility having a minor heart attack on 14 JAN 2008.
    *Personally recognized by the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment commander Colonel H.R. McMaster (now brigadier general) in Baghdad, Iraq for providing emergency care to three wounded U.S. soldiers simultaneously on 10 JUNE 2005 at the expense of my own personal safety.
