  • Brief Profile: obviously stats were not my strong point. My GPA is really more of a 3.8 as for 4 years i had a 3.8 GPA. My GPA dropped a lot due to a few bad CC classes i took in HS. I am also a nontrad with some relatively interesting experiences which i assume are a large reason as to why i had success with subpar stats as well as possibly sub par activities too. Apparently stats arent everything or im lucky you decide:)

    Summary of Application Experience

Well some people seem to find this helpful and im bored at work so here it goes :)

Creighton - invite 8/6/2009, interview 9/4/2009 , waitlist 10/16, withdrew 1/4/10. This school is ok. The area is a big turn off for me, omaha is like the middle of nowhere with very little diversity. The facilities youll do M1-M2 at are fairly new but the hospital you will do M3-M4 at is old. Really for me, theres just not a lot this school has to offer. Not a lot of research, not a lot of community involvement outside of the standard clinics and such all schools have. To me just a middle of the road med school nothing special.

UC Davis - invite 9/4/2009, interview 9/25, Acceptance 01/04/10 - Had to wait FOREVER for the call but omg such a great new years. UCdavis is beyond impressive. I really think its moving in the right direction and going to be on par with the top UC schools like UCSF, UCLA, and UCSD. They have a ton of research opportunties, are heavily focused on the students as well as community health. The staff and professors are so responsive and supportive, the college system is kinda nice too. Facilities are all brand new and the clinical training is excellent and really a great learning experience compared to other schools (at least thats what the M3-M4 I talked to said.) Everything about the school is just amazing. I am likely to come here in july.

UC Irvine - Invite 09/09/2009, interview 09/23/2009, Waitlist 10/20/09. UCI doesnt doo much to try to impress you on the interview day. They are building all new facilities on campus for M1-M2 and there is a brand new hospital to do M3-M4 at. They dont have a lot of research for the students (outside of basic sciences, which they have a lot of) but im not too interested in becoming and academic doc anyways. Community involvement is everywhere and theres a lot of cool things in that area. UCI doesnt have the best reputation but i know from my experiences here that while it may be the \"least desireable\" UC if you do well here its not going to matter like most schools. For me I just didnt want to go to UCI so i turned them down.

Univ. of Wisconsin - Invite 10/5/2009, Interview 11/6/2009, Acceptance 12/14/2009. My 1st acceptance and its my top OOS choice. The school really surprised me. The facilities are all brand new and gorgeous (from the pre clinical buildings to the brand new research towers and childrens hospital). The way they set up their M3-M4 years i think would give you the best clinical experiences of near any school out there (at least according to what ive read and med students there i talked to). Everyone is so supportive and helpful there its ridic. They really focus on their students and the opportunities for research (of all types from science to public health) are endless. This school is amazing. If it were in california, Id attend here over anywhere in a heartbeat. I fell in love with this school and if i was single, Id attend in an instant. however, it would be hard to move my son and wife to Wisconsin from california. Their OOS tuition is the cheapest of any med school i think and with cost of living, is cheaper then my IS options barring free money. I might attend here if i get some free money but i just dont know.

UCLA - invite 10/12/09, interview 11/12/09, WL 3/15/10. Still waiting for my decision but obvi. my top choice. I just couldnt turn down UCLA and what it offers. Just beware the interview day is HORRIBLE it sucks seriously. They do a poor job at selling the school but its UCLA. Going to such a school would be insane like hopkins or UCSF. Ended up WL and likely wont come off seeing as how late it is:(...so sad i loved this school but oh well off to davis i cant complain. :)

Drexel - invite 9/15/09, interview 11/3/2009, Acceptance 12/20/09, Withdrew 01/4/10. School just isnt for me. Similar to creighton just sort of a middle of the road med school with not a lot to offer. Also hate the Philly area. Dont see myself here so i withdrew after UC davis acceptance.

Albert Einstein - invite 9/24/09, interview 11/23/09, Acceptance 1/15/10, Withdrew 1/16/10. Once again school isnt for me. Though I will say the opportunities for global health and the fact that they pay for such trips and endeavors is awesome. Location is awful. Withdrew after UCD acceptance.

OHSU - invite 12/11/09, Interview 1/13/10, Withdrew 01/4/10. Withdrew from the school after UC davis acceptance. The school seems great though i withdrew before my interview. Its just too expensive as an OOS for me to consider. Though i hear wonderful things about ohsu.

St Louis. Univ. - invite 12/20/09, WIthdrew 01/5/10. Withdrew before interview. The area is not so great but i did live in STL for a while and liked it. My wifes family lives here and really thats the main reason i dont want to go here haha....not sure why i applied but ah well.

After having been accepted at two of my top choices (UC davis, Univ. wisconsin) I withdrew from just about everywhere but other UC schools and USC.
