  • Application cycles: 2009
  • Demographics: Male, Caucasian
  • Home state: Arizona
  • Brief Profile: Medical related stuff:

I volunteered at a hospital, but not much. Like 1 time per week for a few months.
I shadowed, but not much. Like 1 time per week for a few months.
I assisted in a chiropractic office, helping with physical therapy... a modest amount.
I volunteered at an assisted living home, not much. Total of ~25 hours.

    Non-medical related stuff:

I taught secondary instruction sessions for biology, physiology, neurobiology, and a bit here and there for other classes as needed. I also wrote the materials and had websites that served as Q&A forums for students that wanted additional help.

Dean's List every semester, but only after returning to school. My first semester had 3 F's and 2 W's. I've had a W or two every semester since, because I liked trying classes to see if I liked them.

I was a comedian/actor for a year in Los Angeles prior to moving back to do pre-med.

I participated in research at my home university for a year (1 publication prepping for print, but I'm author #40,302). I also did a summer program in neuroscience in another state, and hopefully there will be a publication from that... I will be first author if it happens.

    Application Cycle One: 2009

    • Undergraduate college: Arizona State University
    • Undergraduate Area of study: Biological/Life Sciences
    • Total MCAT SCORE: 516
    • MCAT Section Scores: B/B 127, C/P 127, CARS 132
    • Overall GPA: 3.82
    • Science GPA: 3.88

    Summary of Application Experience

First off, I don't actually TAKE the MCAT until August 21st. So, those scores are from the AAMC practice test that I took today. So, I am hoping to send off my AMCAS on the 30th (assuming my last letter and my transcripts come in) but we'll see what happens. Either way, my application will not be complete until around September 20th (or, at least, that's my understanding) and so I'm gonna be 'applying late'. From what I understand that is a big no-no!

    6/21/09-
I took another practice MCAT today and got a 34. This is my best yet. Prior to this I had gotten a 25, 29, and 30. I have still yet to 'really' study. I just can't muster the enthusiasm... that is gonna hurt me I am sure. I am also really losing confidence because I know that my GPA stats aren't especially impressive, my MCAT is not going to be *amazing*, and I am applying late. The plan for right now is to just try it, and see what happens.
