  • Brief Profile: The low gpa is due to my excessive social life freshman and sophomore year when I wasn\\\'t totally focused. I showed an upward trend however, from sophomore year forward: sophomore year: 2.85 cum gpa, junior year: 3.5 cum gpa, senior year: 3.76 cum gpa. Hopefully adcoms recognize this and don\\\'t focus too much on the much lower than average overall gpa.

    Summary of Application Experience

I\'m applying to both M.D. and D.O. schools obviously because of my numbers, but also because I\'d like to keep my options open. The D.O. philosophy is different and very interesting, I think that it might be a good fit for my personality.

I will be retaking the MCAT June 18 because my scores aren\'t good enough for almost all schools and a 25 doesn\'t help offset my gpa any. I took the Princeton review course and I think it helped a lot, even though it didn\'t show in my score. My last three practice tests were 30\'s and I was still showing an upward trend with each test, so I was very optimistic. I think that my nerves really got to me on test day. To help combat this I scheduled a 2pm exam instead of an 8am (God
waking up at 6am for 2 weeks straight trying to acclimate myself was crappy), and I\'m approaching this MCAT with a new, more carefree attitude. Anyway, I feel much more confident about this next exam and I don\'t think that my nerves will be much of an issue.

I will be updating my profile as I go...

I will be submitting AMCAS hopefully this week and AACOMAS as soon as they get their heads out of their asses and get my MCAT scores.

    6/4/09
My application is complete with AACOMAS. My AMCAS app is complete, however I\'m waiting to submit it until after I retake the MCAT so that the scores are released before my app is verified. My reasoning is that I don\'t want adcoms getting my app before the new MCAT score is released in fear that they will throw the app into a pile and never look at it again.

Took the 2PM MCAT. It went pretty well although some of the people I talked with said they were almost in tears. I guess we\'ll see on or around the 21st of July.

    6/23/09
Submitted my AMCAS today, waiting for it to be verified.

    6/24/09
Received secondaries for Des Moines COM and LECOM.

    6/26/09
Received secondaries from AT Kirksville, Nova Southeastern, UChicago, and George Washington.

    7/22/09
Well, the second MCAT didn\'t quite go as planned. Again I was practicing using princeton practice tests and was consistently scoring 30\'s. Anyway, I got a 26 on the second try. At least my score improved, however modest. We\'ll see how the rest of this process goes now that I have both a subpar GPA and MCAT...

    9/18/09
I haven\'t updated this is a while. The new format was sort of a shock. Anyway, my letters of rec were FINALLY sent in on 9/9/09. I\'m just waiting for interview invites now and I\'m keeping my fingers crossed.

    10/9/09
Well, the rejections are certainly rolling. I find it tough to remain optimistic, even though I am usually nothing but.
