Work: - Tutor of chemistry, biology and physics for 3 years. - Worked in a math/science help center for 2 years. - Taught a discussion of organic chemistry (Structured Learning Assistance - like a TA) - Some random part-time jobs that weren't applicable...(was also paid to do research for 2 summers)
Clinical: - Volunteered at 2 hospitals ~3 months each (~3-8 hours/week) - Shadowed in a week-long program at local hospitals (~40 hours) - Shadowed 2 ophthalmologists and an OB/GYN (1 day each) - Many experiences with a mother and sister who both have a genetic eye disease, and being involved in their treatment process (cornea transplants, stem cell transplant, etc).
Research: - Worked on a research project in molecular biology for 1 year ('06-'07) studying how different microbial loads in tree swallows affect their return rates and survivorship. - Worked on another research project in organic chemistry for 1 year ('07-'08) working to synthesize compounds that could be potential antibiotics (specifically against MRSA). - Worked on a third research project for a year ('08-'09) in biochemistry studying the regulation of a group of proteins that controls actin polymerization in cells. I was also awarded a grant through my school (Student Summer Scholars) to work full-time in the summer of 2008 on this project. - Participated in Student Scholarship Day poster presentation
