Summary of Application Experience
I allowed myself to falter on the MCAT as well as submit a late application, but I followed through despite those setbacks. The MCAT frustrated me because I was scoring well into the 30s on the AAMC and TPR practice exams. I actually fell asleep a few times in each section whe I sat for the real one :( . I thought I was most likely going to go through the entire cycle with no acceptances, but maybe get on one or two wait lists at best. I figured that if in fact my low score and lateness kept me from getting into med school this cycle I was going to do it right on the next cycle. In fact, I had already drafted a new personal statement, set up new research opportunities, set up more appointments to shadow physicians, and had been hammering the MCAT books by the time I got my acceptance from University of Arizona. The acceptance came as quite a shock and a massive relief. I cannot stress enough how thrilled and proud I was and still am that I got my UA letter. Had I thrown in the towel, which I was extremely tempted to do, I would be doing practice exams over and over again instead of writing this right now. But quitting was not something I associated myself with, and therefore drove on, getting an acceptance as a result. I do not say this boastfully, but rather hoping at least one single solitary person with an underdog application may find hope and drive on in pursuit of their dream too. It is worth it.
