Summary of Application Experience
I changed from PhD to masters because the research was too far from having any real world affect on humanity. Sound cliche? I don't care, it's the truth. I left computer science, where I made good money, and went into science because I felt that I might be able to make a difference. The sad truth is that many basic science researchers use buzz words (i.e. cancer, obesity, etc...) to get funding, but making medically relevant discoveries isn't a priority. So, medicine here I come, to the land where I can make a difference in the people I serve.
I decided five months ago, studied and took the MCAT, and have turned in applications. The MCAT was a tragedy. I was scoring in the 30's on Kaplan practice tests and squeaked out a 25S-not what I was shooting for. I haven't take O-Chem yet, and haven't had physics in 7 years, that probably hurt me. :)
Anyway, it's been a fast, but arduous journey. I don't like the waiting game, and that's what I'm doing now. So be it.
