    Summary of Application Experience

I am really nervous about the application process. I know my numbers are pretty low, but I've seen lower, lol. Plus I grew up in single parent home, teenage mom, crack head for a father, grew up in the projects... wow! Beat some fantastic odds and landed at an AMAZING undergrad institution.... Unfortunately, I didn't focus on academics during undergrad (way too much time with debate team), and now I am paying for it in more ways than one, lol. Currently, in second year of SMP-- very good grades thus far and four courses were taken with medical students.

Doing research in heart failure -- sarcomeric protein dysfunction. And volunteering at a local free clinic.

I really want an offer of admission!!! Will be ecstatic if I get into any of my fav five (see above). Praying hard! Submitting AMCAS tomorrow (8/17/08).

Update 10/3/2008: This process is moving entirely too slow, and I am concerned that late arriving secondaries will interfere with my study time. AMCAS finally verified my application 10/02/08. I am still waiting on EIGHT secondaries, which is driving me crazy b/c six of the eight schools do not screen.

Update 10/9/2008 (morning): Okay did a little research and discovered that all of the schools that I have yet to hear from screen. This includes: Morehouse, Rosalind Franklin, Loyola, Southern Ill and Meharry. I am very nervous now as my primary app has been verified for eight days, and I have only heard from one school that screens (UIC). Hopefully, I will not be screened out by all five... Boy that would suck!!!

Update 10/9/2008 (afternoon): Wow!!! Just checked my email (for the billionth time today, lol) and an invite for Morehouse's secondary was there, yay!!!

Update 10/14/2008: Getting upset that I don't have time for secondaries b/c I'm swamped with school work!

A lil upset about my MCAT results. Retook MCAT after studying extra hard over the summer, focusing ONLY on physical sciences. I literally did not touch the other sections, so I find it amazing that my PS score went down while the other two increased or stayed the same. IM NEVER TAKING THAT SILLY EXAM AGAIN!!! This was my third MCAT, if you count the one I voided in August 2008, lol. I'm officially over it!!!

Update 10/20/2008: WAITING... No Invites :-(

Update 10/23/2008: Still not a word from three schools. All three schools screen, so I'm thinking they screened me out. Haven't found the motivation to do Rush or CMS secondaries cuz they are really tough-- loaded with too many unique questions.

Update 11/14/2008: The admissions cycle isn't favoring me. I received two rejections yesterday from SIU and Loyola, and even though I really wasn't interested in attending either school it still stung. My MCAT is right on par (and actually higher than SIU) for these schools, so I'm guessing my appalling GPA got me weeded out. Needless to say this is not the type of news I want to hear back from schools esp. when I haven't received any interview invites and mind you I was put on pre-interview hold by Morehouse... It's gonna be a long winter.

Update 12/2/2008: Finally received Meharry's secondary. Thought they screened me out, considering it took them two months to decide to award me a secondary.

Update 1/5/2009: Still no news. Staying prayed up and hopeful. I know it's getting late in the game and things are looking bleak, but I know this is my year. God may not come when you want him, but he is always on time!!! I'll update again when I receive an interview invite.
