    Summary of Application Experience

Basically I decided to forgo all of my M.D. applications because after shadowing D.O.s I just wanted to get that extra training, but also study medicine in a holistic way. I know they say there is training in osteopathic treatment after allopathic schools if you want it, but it isn't just the training. D.O.s see disease in a different light. Pathology is approached a little differently such that the understanding one gets after studying it in the osteopathic realm is more complete, more whole. And not just pathology, but all of the subject matter! I know there are probably M.D. schools out there (not to mention Univ. of WA... ahhhh! I had a tough time not doing this one) that I would absolutely love and would enjoy going to, but I know I would always wonder 'why didn't I choose D.O.?' My patients would be better off anyhow, and isn't that what it's all about? (M.D.s are great doctors, but why not go the extra mile?)

My primaries were ready by June 15th. I received secondaries/supplementals in the last week of July to DMU-COM, CCOM and A.T. Still-KCOM. Have not heard back yet from KCUMB, WVSOM, AZCOM or PNWU. Just playing the waiting game :)

08/04/2008 Spoke with AZCOM and KCUMB and they have not started mailing secondaries/supplementals yet! PNWU said they will not start interviewing 'til October b/c of the new class starting. I suspect they have not began reviewing AACOMAS app.'s yet.

08/06/2008 Received WVSOM notice saying that they are processing my app. and will let me know of an interview date

Mid August I received an invitation to interview at WVSOM on Sept. 19th and DMU-COM on Sept. 12th.

08/20/2008 received invite to interview at KCUMB on Sept. 16th. Still waiting (as of 08/31/2008) for the colleges to receive my LOR from my D.O. mentor.

Went to all of my interviews! They were great schools. DMU-COM probably still my top choice followed by KCUMB then WVSOM. My file is complete on KCOM, AZCOM and CCOM on 09/23. So I will here back regarding interviews in a little bit (hopefully soon!).

So I heard back from AZCOM, ATSU-KCOM, and CCOM, but I withdrew. Iowa here I come! Wooo hooo! I am very particular about where I go and weighed ALL of the +/- and DMU is more than enough in a medical school. Praise God that I am attending.
