Summary of Application Experience
AMCAS App Verified 7/14/08 AACOMAS App Submitted 7/5, Still waiting to be verified
7/29/08 -Started working on secondary apps...so far I have 14 secondaries but have only managed to finish 5. The essays are sucking the life out of me. I'm running out of money and have to do them on my days off.
9/10/08 - Haven't posted in a while. I received my first Interview at Eastern Virginia. I'm so excited!
9/16/08 - So far 5 DO interviews and 2 MD interviews. Its awesome to have that many interviews this early. Last year I only had 2 interviews from MD schools (only applied MD). I'm not turning down any interviews till I have an acceptance (DO or MD) at a school I can see myself attending for the next 4 years.
9/26/08 - Returned from my first interview at AZCOM. I didn't think it went that well. They asked me if I applied MD too and if I was a reapplicant and only applied MD only last year. This was coming from the DO interviewer. I seemed like he had an inferiority complex about being a DO and wanted to hate on me because I just wanted to be a doctor any way possible (DO or MD). I'm not expecting anything good, but at least I received another interview and UMDNJ-SOM (DO) today! Woot woot!
9/18/08 - Sent in last two DO secondaries. Submitted them all under a month. Still working on a few MD secondaries (the more tedious ones).
10/10/08 - Have attended DO interviews at AZCOM, Touro-NV, and Touro-NY. AZCOM interview didn't go very well and I have been wait listed. Touro NY and NV both went fairly well and waiting to hear from them. Went to the MD interview at EVMS and that went REALLY well. I loved the school and everyone was extremely nice. I'm crossing my fingers. Today I also received a MD interview at Albany Medical College, and last week one at Howard University. I'm so luck to have this many interviews. I'm crossing my fingers that I get into one!
10/31/08 - Just got back from an east coast trip to interview at Howard, Albany, and LECOM-Erie. While over there I received word of my acceptance from University of Illinois at Chicago. I then canceled my UMDNJ interview and Touro Mare Island Interview. I am also going to turn down my acceptances at Touro-NV and Touro-NY. It has my dream to be a physician and deep down inside I really wanted to go MD. I know I would have been happy in a DO school but would have probably been one of those that really wanted to go MD but didn't get in. I think DO is an awesome path to becoming a physician so those that are only applying DO, I'm not hating on you. Plus, Chicago is a great city and it has a solid program, more so than Touro-NV and Touro-NY where I've been accepted. I'm happy to have an acceptance this early after being a reapplicant. It puts me at great ease. Those of you reading this, NEVER GIVE UP. I like Howard more so than Albany. If the price is right (ie fin aid) I might choose Howard over UIC if accepted (at UIC I'll be paying ridiculous out-of-state tuition).
4/14/09 - I have decided to attend UIC because I received a scholarship for being an minority student which gives me the same tuition as an in-state student. That makes the tution cheaper than most if not all the private schools I applied to.
