// Applications //
Application Cycle One: 2008
Undergraduate college: University of Michigan
Undergraduate Area of study: Biological/Life Sciences
7/3/08 - Submitted my primaries! The delay was due to finishing touches on the personal statement. I will receive results of my second MCAT in a few weeks.
7/11/08 - Sent off my first secondary (somehow received this BEFORE my AMCAS was verified) to NYMC. I feel ripped-off: no required essays, just $100 payment and LORs. Still awaiting MCAT scores and AMCAS verification. Twiddles thumbs.
7/14/08 - Got my MCAT scores in (5:15 PM)! Finally, a test score to match (or at least be within the same ballpark as) my GPA! On the low end of my practice range this time (34-41), but still acceptable and much improved. Old scores: 8VR/12PS/10BS/N Writing = 30N
7/25/08 - AMCAS verified this morning! Starting to receive secondary applications
7/28/08 - Received a TON of applications in my email box this morning. Completed and submitted almost all thus far, including some of the major ones with essays which I worked heavily on over the weekend.
9/2/08 - So excited! My first interview! I'm getting nervous that I'm not hearing back from more places though...what's going on?
10/9/08 - I loved everything about Penn. Enough said.
10/22/08 - FIRST ACCEPTANCE!! I'm really going to be a doctor! :-D
10/24/08 - Michigan interview was fun; very similar to Penn
11/5/08 - After my interview, I decided that if I had to apply again, I would not include UIC in my list - my interviewer did not treat me well, the area seemed a little sketchy, and the students did not appear thrilled to be there. But they had a nice work-out facility!
11/12/08 - The news I'd been waiting 21 years to hear
12/11/08 - Tufts was a lot of fun - people were nice, buildings recently renovated, and new curriculum. Although, their idea of breakfast was candy, but hey, can't complain too much at the freebies.
12/16/08 - Not terribly impressed with Northwestern. In fact, pretty let-down. The program's not for everyone, and that includes me.
12/19/08 - Ahhh, Harvard. Students were actually quite down-to-earth (they make it clear that it's the UNDERGRADS who are deserving of the poor reputation, not them) and friendly. I came at a weird time, though - last day of exams before break, and the middle of a terrible snow storm. Everything went well, though - I had awesome student hosts, and my interviewers were great and put obvious time and effort into my application. The facilities themselves weren't anything too spectacular, but MGH (where I was sent for one of my interviews) was pretty cool. Didn't wow me like Penn or Michigan, however - a little more traditional and a little less room for free time and happiness than the two I fell in love with. The name carries a lot of weight for residency placement, but the actual training is not necessarily far superior to other top schools, from what I gathered. Still a great place to be, but not my top choice.
