Summary of Application Experience
Apply in the summer (ideally, June/July/August) widely enough that you can get an early acceptance. Then you can focus specifically on your top choices, secure in the knowledge that you'll be a doctor no matter what. Why do I say this? This was my second application season. My first time, I applied very late in the game (after getting WL at my state school), got 2 interviews, and ended up on 2 wait lists. I wouldn't recommend that experience; there's nothing quite like the cloud of desperation that hangs over groups at April interview days.
I'm happy with how things turned out this year. Bradenton was my top osteo pick, and probably about my #3 pick overall.
