Summary of Application Experience
The application process is one of the most grueling processes I have been through. I am glad that I will never have to do this again.
The hypocrisy of medical schools is astounding. Many claim 'we want our physicians to serve the underserved'. Very few of these schools go out and recruit minority students in these 'underserved areas' that are likely to go back there and practice. It is very expensive to even apply to medical school, let alone attend. The process favors the affluent. Until the process begins to change, there will always be a shortage of qualified health professionals in low socioeconomic areas.
I also find it hard to blame non-minorities who choose not to practice in these low socioeconomic areas. It is expensive to attend medical school and they have to pay off those loans.
