Summary of Application Experience
applying to a ton of schools, pretty much started adding schools and couldn't really stop. i was told to apply broadly and with my grades i took that quite literally. but, i've made it past a few pre-secondary screens so that's slightly encouraging.
11/7-So excited to have an interview at UW. Never thought it would happen.
11/12-Just got back from my interview UTHSCSA. I was very impressed with their program and how happy everyone seems. I really like the integrated curriculum. Not entirely sure how I feel about the facilities. I thought that they were pretty rundown, but maybe I've just been spoiled by working at the medical center in Houston. Dr. Jones was incredibly nice and really tried to make you feel special for being invited to interview Overall, I would definitely be happy here, and it's cheap! Off to pack for Vermont.
11/15-Interview at Vermont was great! I LOVED the school. It's sad that it's so damn expensive. Burlington was beautiful, but possibly too small for me. The curriculum is amazing, the facilities are brand new and everyone just seems happy and stress-free. Anyone who has an interview there should definitely check it out.
11/28-Interview at Texas Tech. The school is alright, but oh my gosh I would die in Lubbock...a bit too red state for my blue soul. Then again, at the end of the whole process, I'll take what I can get. Off to prep for my UW interview. Lots of health policy/ethics reading to catch up on!
12/7- ACCEPTED TO UTHSCA!!
12/11-Invited to interview at USC. I love their curriculum and LA but I don't know if I would be willing to take on the debt over state-school tuition...an invite at UCLA, on the other hand, would be much appreciated!
12/13-Interviewed at University of Washington and I think I've fallen in love. Such a great program and a wonderful city. The interview was actually quite pleasant, my panel was incredibly nice and really just wanted to get to know me. I actually thought I did really well, but I don't want to get my hopes up. I should know something by January 10th, which would make a great early birthday present...just a thought :-)
12/31-Interview invite at UT Houston. Happy New Year indeed!
1/4/08-Interview invite at Drexel. Haven't received an e-mail, but status page was updated. Will decide after hearing from UWSOM on the 10th.
1/9/08-Interviewed at UT Houston and I really loved it. Such a great school. Amazing facilities and it feels like they care about their students. Tied for top choice with UW.
1/10/08- Post Interview hold at UW.
1/11/08- Accepted to the University of Washington!!!!!!!! I love this school, but I'm a bit hesitant to leave my support network in Houston (assuming I match to UT-Houston). I'm also still holding out for interviews from an nyc school and ucla.
1/31/08 Matched to UTH! So thrilled!! But now I have a tough choice to make in the next few months.
4/21/08 I've finally made a decision. I'll be enrolling at the University of Washington School of Medicine and I can't wait to start!!
