-One year of research with my University's Eye research Institute in which I have obtained 3 poster abstracts (one I am first author on) and 1 journal publication. (paid work) -Recieved National Eye Institute Travel Grant to attend 2004 ARVO conference for my Poster Presentation -Graduated Magna Cum Laude with Departmental Honors -Volunteer as Sunday School Teacher for two years -Assistant Organizer of the Mommy Network of Hampton Roads and run the Book Club associated with them (volunteer) -Shadowing two doctors (one geneticist and one ophthalmologist) for 1 year -One year if clinical research in the Pectus Excavatum project at Eastern Virginia Medical School (paid work) -Participated in the 2007 Breezy Point Triathlon with Team-in-Training to help raise $50,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (personally raising $2100)and plan to be a mentor/participant for the 2008 Breezy Point Triathlon with team-in-training

Summary of Application Experience
Well I definately need to figure out where else I want to apply to. I got my scores back today for my retake and while they were higher (29R to 31R) they are not quite what I was hoping for. I am so limited to where I can apply to by my family. My husband definately wants to go back to Michigan, and I would love to go to U of M but realistically my scores are not quite there. Any additional schools or comments are definately welcome and appreciated!!!
8-3-07 So I added Michigan State, U of Wisconsin, Wright State, and Drexel to my list. That gives me 12 schools so hopefully one of them will love me! My #1 pick is U of Michigan (but realistically with my numbers it is a reach even with me being in-state) and then Case Western and Wayne State tie for 2nd. My Amcas app was verified and so the secondaries are making their way into my mailbox! Now the fun part of multiple essays!
10-5-07 My secondaries have all been in and completed for almost a month now and no word on interviews yet! I am getting a little anxious about that!
10-10-07 Rejection from University of Wisconsin came in the snail mail today. There letter states that it was because I was out-of-state and they prefer in-state applicants. The rejection was not as painful as I thought it might be!
10-11-07 Put on pre-interview hold at Case Western University. Not hearing anything positive (like an interview) is making me really anxious!!
10-13-07 Recieved an invitation (snail mail) to interview at Wayne State! The letter was dated 10/11 so they only had my application for 3 weeks before contacting me..hopefully that is a good sign!
11-21-07 I was rejected from U Pitt the day before my Wayne interview, but it was to be expected I guess. However my Wayne interview was AWESOME! I was so impressed with the school and the curriculum. PLus all the students were so friendly! I was told I could call on 11-28 for my decision!!
11-28-07 ACCEPTED at Wayne!!! I am sooo excited! I loved the school, the program and the students. I am just so happy! I am going to be a doctor!

Rejected from Michigan State. I could have saved myself A LOT of money if I had known that Wayne would be the only school that was going to talk to me. They were my realistic 1st choice, so I am thrilled, but this process is SUPER random!!
