    Summary of Application Experience

    6/7 - AMCAS verified

Complete at most schools end of July

Complete at most others beginning of August

Applied to some more schools mid-August

It's 9/13 and I'm getting scared because I've now gotten 3 rejections though my numbers say I should be fairly competitive. Maybe my essay/personal statement sucked but I had other people read it and they thought it was fine. I'm worried about the outcome of this crazy process, but at least looking forward to my Michigan interview on 9/15!

Its 9/16 and I came back from my Michigan interview...it was AWESOME! The school is so great and its really the people that make it so sweet. Also, my status changed on UPenn's page back to 'complete' from 'on hold' which makes me happy. Still rejected from BU and Chicago but oh well. I can't wait until 10/15 when U of M's admission decision is released!

10/15 - U of M's decisions came and went and no acceptance :(. I guess I'll have to wait and see whether my decision's been deferred or whether I've been put on a waitlist or rejected but its pretty depressing.

10/16 - Checked my status page and got 'Highly Desired - December decision'. I guess this means they are going to compare me to other interviewees between October and December and then let me know in December. I'm sending a Letter of Intent tomorrow so hopefully that'll help.

10/24 - I had the urge to apply to a couple more schools so I added Ohio State and UNC-Chapel Hill this morning. It's probably an incredibly long shot since I'm so late but they look like great schools, so what the heck!

10/30 - I had been told by the admissions office at UVa that they had mailed a letter to me on 10/16. My mail is messed up so I hadn't gotten it...I called and they let me come into the admissions office to pick my letter up! :)...now I'm going to withdraw from EVMS and VCU.

11/3 - Well I randomly decided last night at a bar that I would be happy staying at UVa, so I decided there is no reason to go to Miami. I withdrew my application and cancelled my plane ticket (even though I lost money, it saved me hotel expenses and such). Also, I saw last night on my status page that Michigan has received my letter of intent/interest. The fact that they told me makes me love their transparancy even more...Maybe I'll get in in December, but I'm not holding my breath...

11/16 - My status at UPenn changed to decision deferred again, which I'm assuming means I'm not going to get an interview. Also, I checked my status page at Northwestern to find that they've mailed me a letter without granting me an interview, which I'm sure means a rejection. I'm glad UVa ranks higher than Northwestern in the USNews rankings (though they may or may not mean anything at all) because at least it makes me feel better. However, I'm thinking it was a mistake to apply to any top tier schools because I am getting no love - moral of the story, MCAT scores above 33 or so make little difference! I feel like I could have gotten in to UVa with a 33/34, so my 38 really hasn't helped me yet (except land an auto-interview at Michigan, to which I still have not been accepted...)

12/19 - Got deferred until March at Michigan and waitlisted at Wake. Pretty much looks like I'm going to UVa unless I get in to Ohio State. I continue to change my mind about whether or not I truly want to stay at UVa for another four years. If I like Ohio State and do get in, then right now I think there is a high chance that I would go there. I'm really bummed about the Michigan decision though - I sent two letters, one that they listed as interest/intent, and the second that they listed as letter of intent on the status page, but I still haven't gotten in. This is a pretty depressing week.

2/9 - My visit to Ohio State actually helped me realize that UVa has a great medical school. At this point, even if I am admitted to Michigan I will probably choose to stay at UVa - Now I'm really excited about medical school!
