  • Application cycles: 2008
  • Demographics: Female, Caucasian
  • Home state: California
  • Brief Profile: Note to future applicants: School choice is huge in your success as an applicant. I added 5 schools about a month after I initially submitted AMCAS, and have been accepted to 2 of those. Don't use DO schools as safeties, just plan appropriately and you'll be fine.

My mom passed away a few years ago which caused severe financial hardship for my family and therefore I've had to work my way through college. My grades suffered because of this.

8/20 Panicked and added 5 schools to AMCAS.
    8/26 UC Davis submitted
8/28 GW overnighted. (Took forever to print out a stupid picture)
9/9 Sent out UT app but forgot to put the check in the envelope...

    Comments:
8/6 Still haven't submitted Tulane (due to all the issues with the app) or UCLA. Working 2 jobs, volunteering, and applying is rough. I didn't think this process would be so hard...

8/11 Still haven't accomplished anything else. I've been swamped at work and just have had zero energy. I'm starting to get worried about not hearing from schools. So far this process is wearing me down.

8/19 So far so good. Submitted apps are complete (although I have no clue about Albert Einstein). Just have to finish UCLA and then wait to hear. I hate waiting.

8/26 School started yesterday so I'm trying to get things wrapped up. GW is finished, I just have to mail it out. I'm trying to write U Toledo's stupid cultural competence essay and that is the last one I have. Still want to hear from UC Irvine and am discouraged and confused that I haven't. I really want an interview. I want to be a doctor so bad but am getting very discouraged!

8/27 BU rejection has me down. I know they rejected tons of wonderful people, but I feel like its just one less chance to become a doctor.

9/10 Well now I'm almost thankful that I don't have any interviews because there is no way I could afford plane tickets and a nice suit to wear... yeah right... I want an interview so badly, but realistically I'll probably have to wait until '09 before I get one

9/19 Another week without interviews. Trying to put my focus on school but it isn't helping. I'm really losing confidence.

9/26 Complete at all the schools I recieved secondaries from. Still holding onto hope for UC Irvine. I've been trying harder not to think about this whole process and to realize that, with my grades, I probably won't get interviews until December or later. Its still hard, but I guess there is nothing I can do about it now!

10/28 FIRST INTERVIEW INVITE!!!!!!! I was seriously starting to get discouraged with all the talk of interviews that was going on in my classes. I really don't want to go back to the midwest (spent first half of my life there) but I'll go anywhere to be a doctor. Now I need a suit...

10/29 Woooooo! I emailed UT saying I'd be in the area and they came back with an interview. 2 interiviews in 2 days and I'll have to drive 3 hours across the great state of Ohio. Thank goodness for family that will lend me cars and a place to stay. Now if only Wright State would offer me one as well...

11/10 Tulane interview! This has been an awesome few weeks for me! Although, a little more than 3 weeks notice would be nice for some of these. Tickets are $600+ to go to New Orleans...

12/4 ACCEPTED!!!! MEDICAL SCHOOL HERE I COME

12/18 Accepted to UT. Of the 3 schools I've been to so far, its definitely my favorite. I'm really happy abotu this one.
Just called Tulane and accepted!!!! 2 acceptances in one morning. Wow. 3/3 for interviews. Not too shabby!

1/14 Well 3 acceptances and 1 more interview to go. I'm still holding out hope for some UCs. I really want to stay in California, but I'm just not sure if I'm willing to take the cost of USC or stay here for another 4 years. But I'm pretty sure its over for everywhere else. UVA and AECOM have started sending out rejections so I keep checking my mailbox but nothing yet. Sigh... I wish this was over.

1/26 Have been rejected from AECOM. UCLA came today which sucks. On the other hand, its nice to know and not wait.

2/27 Holy crap UCSD. Dream come true

4/7/09 ACCEPTED TO UCSD! THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I'M HANDS DOWN GOING THERE
