    Summary of Application Experience

App was completed and trasmitted on July 07, 2004. About two weeks before secondaries began to show up. Also, be sure to stay active in thsi process and call AACOMAS -- they don't seem to do anything unless you make them.

Also, pick schools that you would want to attend, not schools just because you want to become a doc. I tried to stick to the South East area (aside from NYCOM, but I'm not gonna complete the secondary) as I'd rather have to reapply than spend four years anywhere else. Plus it saves money.

10/18: Interview at VCOM, my first choice. I hope I am accepted, but who knows at this point. I feel my great LOR's are what have carried me this far at VCOM. If accepted, I plan on withdrawing everywhere else.

11/04: Interview at VCOM went very well, I thought. The school is awesome all around and I couldn't find anything I didn't like. ADCOM meets on 11/19 and we were told those accepted would be notified that afternoon. Came home to find out I have been offered an interview at WVSOM. Now for the hard part.

11/18: VCOM adcom meets tomorrow sometime, so I hopefully will get that phone call from Ms. Price. I was invited to interview at PCOM-Atlanta on 12/02, the day after my interview for WVSOM! Since I'd rather, at this point, live in GA than WV, I'm going to reschedule my WVSOM interview if I'm not admitted to VCOM. If I am admitted tomorrow, I'm cancelling all interviews.

11/19: VCOM ended up flat-out rejecting me, which I wasn't expecting at all. I felt I did alright at the interview, but was told that the adcom thought I didn't interview very well. I'm not sure what to think about this: none of the three interviewers really asked me anything, just chatted instead. However, the last interviewer (who shall remain nameless) seemed uninterested and detached from the interview; he was doodling pointless 'notes' on paper while I was trying to answer questions. (Yeah, I DID notice that). Naturally, they won't give me a straight answer on what it was that hurt me. Their loss.

I'm almost kind of glad VCOM rejected me, as it forced me to look more at PCOM-Atlanta (which is actually in a town 30 miles outside of Atlanta). The more I learned about it, I am starting to like it more than I did VCOM. Hopefully PCOM-GA won't become a repeat of my experiences with VCOM.

12/07: The interview at PCOM-GA was awesome. I fit with the school's mission and the interviewers seemed impressed with me and my answers. If I'm not admitted to this school, then something is seriously wrong with my application. I decided to withdraw from WVSOM for this reason, as well as I'm getting married in June and don't want to wed and then move 6 hours away. I'm crossing my fingers on GA, but there's always next year.

12/14: A no-go for PCOM-GA. WTF?? You know this is a BS process when a school expresses a lot of interest, grants you an early interview, gives POSITIVE feedback and praise during the interview ... then rejects you! I'm completely speechless. Guess I get to do all this BS next year.
