    Summary of Application Experience

I am truly grateful to be interviewed at so many of my top choices. Now all I can do is sit back and wait. Wish me luck!

12/11/06-The waiting game is killing me! I know I should not expect a response so early from the schools, but I was kind of hoping I would. I would feel better with at least one acceptance. I would hate to be known as the girl that had 10 interviews with no acceptances and add to the negative SDN lore.

12/12/06- Wow, what a diference a day makes. I heard back from the first school I interviewed at with rolling admissions, Drexel, and now I can finally breathe again. Maybe I will even read a book...

12/13/06- Received my 11th interview invite today...this is getting expensive!

12/22/06- Today sucked. I received the Mayo ranked email and was really excited my application was progressing, only to receive the hold email a few hours later. I really wish the email came after the holidays. I am starting to worry I won't be accepted by my top choices. Perhaps it was a bad idea to disclose the fact that I have a baby...who knows. I just really felt like Mayo was a good fit.

1/1/07- I returned home today from a long vacation and found three skinny envelopes waiting for me. I immediately thought I had a reject pile. One letter was from Jefferson simply confirming my interview date (which I had asked to reschedule due to interview conflicts). The second letter was from OHSU and I was sure it was a rejection because I never received an interview, but it was an interview invite! The last envelope was from Rosalind Franklin where I interviewed on 11/28, and it was an acceptance! I can't believe I actually have options. What a great way to start the New Year.

1/24/07- I came home to a big fat Penn State envelope today (dated 1/19)! Wow, one month turn around time, and I am OOS...I am really lucky. Also, because I interviewed right before the holidays (12/20), I forgot to send thank you letters. I loved Hershey so for right now, this is where I will be attending.

1/30/07- Received UofA email today! I am really happy I was accepted in the first batch because I was really stressing about it. Unfortunately, the email did not contain campus placement and they will not give us that info until mid-March. For those of you not familiar with UofA, they just opened a new med school extension in Phoenix, and it will be admitting the first 24 students this year. I really would prefer to attend there because of the incredibly small class size, abundant research opportunities, and because I have a little bit of a pioneering spirit. If they give me Tucson I will probably attend Penn State instead.

2/1/07-I fixed a few things. After receiving my waitlist letter from Mount Sinai, I realized the hold email from Mayo was different (since I am still being reviewed). I updated on here accordingly. Also- don't fly with a head cold. I am sick but I went to my OHSU interview anyway. Upon landing my ears really hurt. I had trouble hearing yesterday and today I found dried blood in my ear. So now I had to cancel my Denver interview (scheduled for tomorrow). I am also really scared of flying home, especially because I need to take two flights. Wish me luck...

2/9/07- Waitlisted at Brown. Crap. Since the remaining schools I have yet to hear from are the best schools I interviewed at, I think a waitlist is the most I can hope for from now on. It still sucks though. Brown was one of my favorites.

2/28/07- Well today is the last day of Feb. Most schools will tell me something by mid-March, so I am anxious to get on with it. I also have my UCSD interview to look forward to. The process is really getting tiresome though. I feel like I am in a bad relationship. I give and I give, but where is the love???

3/5/07- So my mail is slow. My acceptance from OHSU was dated 2/28 (which is awesome because I interviewed on 1/31 and they told me 6 weeks). I am so excited! I hugged my husband so hard I think I may have actually hurt him. Now I need to make sure I met the genetics course requirement though. This will definitely help soften the blow of my Harvard, Baylor and Mayo rejections soon to come.

3/19/07- I just received an email from USC. Apparently they invited me to interview back in Oct, but it must have been sent to my junk mail folder. Damn, damn, damn.

3/26/07- I spoke with Jane at Mayo today, and I am not too optimistic about getting off the waitlist. :( I love you Mayo...let me in!

4/29/07- I updated with my acceptance withdrawals. As of now I am headed to OHSU, and if this is where I ultimately end up, I'll be thrilled. They have an unbeatable class schedule (8-12 most days), are very family friendly, are revamping their clinical research, and are located in beautiful Portland. Of course as an OOS student I would pay dearly for al of those things...

5/15/07- I just got the call...MAYO HERE I COME!!!! If my mom were alive she would be weeping with joy (so I'll just do it for her).

5/15/07 (cont)- I just received a call from Baylor. I will not be accepting, but it is nice to be asked. I really enjoyed my interview day, and LOVED Baylor...but I was turned off by their lack of communication post interview. It took me ages to find out I was an alternate.

5/16/07- Jane called this morning- full tuition scholarship!!!! Wow. Seriously, wow. My grandmother is probably still crying. I am so unbelievably grateful.
