Summary of Application Experience
10/05 - Had an INCREDIBLE interview at the University of Texas at Houston. I can't imagine a better place to go to medical school. Every facility is beyond comparison... from Memorial Hermann to the medical school to MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Texas Heart Institute to the olympic swimming pool and gym they built for students and professors... it's all an absolute dream. Had two great interviews, including one who said, 'I hand picked you (to interview) because you're trying to do with your life what I've tried to do with mine.'
11/05 - Had a solid interview at San Antonio. The students were great (including one who went out of his way to show me around), but the facilities are showing their age. Heard there's an awesome new Dean. I attended a class with first-years and it was very interesting and funny. My first interviewer was the head of the Department of Emergency Medicine and was a really inspiring guy... he has big dreams for his department and his life. The second seemed to enjoy trying to antagonize me.
11/05 - Had two solid interviews at Texas Tech, even though they were both PhD's and I have done no bench research. The second just wanted to talk about life. Very impressed with how much money they've poured in to Tech's med school; not impressed with Lubbock.
2/06 - Accepted at my top choice!!! Withdrew other applications and signed with UT Houston. I plan to take a trip down there ASAP. I urge you to apply if you have the chance... it's a truly special place and a world-class mecca of medicine and science.
