Brief Profile: About my med school application:
Community (Junior) college transfer student (I didn't do well during high school).
I have well over 6 years of research/lab experience (w/publications), including both basic science and clinical research.
During college and after, I have been very involved in the community, especially working with inner-city youth.
Volunteered in a hands-on clinical setting (ER) for over two years, and have shadowed various physicians from a broad range of specialties.
Strong letters of recommendations, mostly from people that have known me for a great deal of time.
I Also took the MCAT twice, I improved two points the second time, but went down one point in Verbal (Q on writing first time).

I pretty much did things that I found important to me, and that I hope to use in my future career. I have had a great time multitasking and fully investigating medicine. My advice is to WORK HARD, get your hands in everything so that you can find out what medicine is about (community, research, and clinical experiences). Grades and MCAT will only get you so far. Especially for California med schools, they want to see that you are interested in research and helping the underserved, to improve healthcare for everyone!
