    Summary of Application Experience

    AMCAS Verified 8/5
    letters received 8/3
Problem with DO school I applied to: they didn't get my MCAT scores and I had no idea that I had to release it to AACOMAS. When I finally did it, my secondary was finally complete and I got an invite the same day. I have only received rejections from the MD schools I applied to. A couple key pieces of information to consider: the 30 that i got was a third retake. I got a 25, 29, and 30. I took the test three times all with inadequate preparation. More importantly, though, I had absolutely no volunteering and it's seeming more and more that clinical volunteering is practically a prerequisite unless of course your mcat is amazing or your research is absolutely amazing. A note about my research... I had no conferences, publications, posters, or anything to show for after a little over a year. I would say most of my experiences were light work, especially my shadowing, in which the doctor whinced every time I showed up and I had to write the letter of rec that he would eventually sign. My three other letters were good apparently. The one redeeming experience about my application in my opinion was my tutoring, which is something that I dedicated myself to for a year. As for my personal statement, I worked on my AMCAS one so much, but when I read it now, it seems a bit too grandiose and show-offy... not something youd expect from a guy that only got a 30. With my DO personal statement, I changed it a little bit to make it less braggadocious. Also, it was more geared toward my positive attitude towards osteopathy. This may be why I was offered an interview. If you want to look at my application to gauge your chances for an MD interview, don't look at my application, it sucks overall. A 30 and a 3.75 is not that bad if that is indeed what you have. I would recommend anyone applying to get at least a little bit of that clinical volunteering as it can make all the difference in the world. Thanks for looking at my app!
