wow, your application is ridiculously strong..!
good luck murdering this application cycle!
p.s: if u didn't want a hyper competitive school environment, why apply to harvard?? lol, for kicks?
and, if you don't mind my asking, what convinced u to retake despite the 31 mcat (not amazing, but not horrible)? didn't pre-med advisers n friends advise u not to?

Every night in my dreams
I see you. I feel you.
That is how I know you go on.
Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on.
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never go till we're one
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
There is some love that will not
go away
You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

dude, with your numbers you can go cut out 1/2 of those schools. You're a lock for UNC or at least ECU so there's your safety. I'd cut out Albany (who will probably waitlist you anyway), Drexel, NYMC, RFU, all the SUNYs, Temple, Creighton, Drexel, unless you have specific interest in the schools. Also, if you're interested in LA, apply to USC in addition to UCLA, you've got a great shot there.

The only thing I can think of is just keep on expanding your extracurric. CV stuff: Research at your undergrad or those summer undergrad research programs, Doing a 1 month of medical missions in a foreign country. LOL - 'Extremely Sexy-21 years-168 hrs/week' - You can't be sexy all the time, that will wear you out. LOL. Also, keep contact with your LOR writers to make sure they have written it.

'safeties'
User #10116, 6/1/2008 at 4:44pm EST
I disagree with cutting out some of the less-selective schools you're applying to, especially if you'd be interested in attending them. Those are the ones that will flood you with merit scholarships and maybe even make attending med school affordable.

Thanks for the advice. If I get below 38 I'll definately be looking into more schools, but why waste the money now? Also, that guy applied to so late to so few schools. It was bound to happen. I hope you don't just try to scare people with that profile :) Thanks again, you'll probably see those middle tiers come June 9. Ha.

copperfrg, 5/29/2008 at 3:16pm EST
You probably realize this.. but with that new MCAT score, don't you think you could narrow down the safeties on your list and add some more reaches? RFU, Drexel, Loyola, SLU, Temple, Tulane, Creighton? Not sure you really need that many low/ mid-tiers anymore. They might ignore you solely because you're not likely to go there if accepted. Trade a few for Duke, Yale, UCSF, or Vandy.. you're above and beyond the stats! Just my 2 cents!

Why no Duke? Long-standing Carolina family? Duke has a lot of great curriculum advantages and even some scholarships for competitive students. Having been through the process, with your current stats, I would suggest a revision of your application list to be composed of maybe the top 15-20 reach schools you're considering - I don't think you'd have a problem.
