To the California MAMS student: my Davis interview was very comfortable, and UCD was the only California school I heard from (probably because I am an alum). While my interview went well, I think I was waitlisted because of my undergraduate GPA, which still brings down their stats. To the student choosing between Masters programs: BU offers great student support and plentiful advice, but it's important to take it with a grain of salt. There are two professors there who will tell you like it really is, while most of them will be very positive and sometimes falsely so. I'm not quite sure what you mean by how much support I received in the admissions cycle. My adviser did give me a list of schools to apply to where he felt I had a reasonable chance, which was very helpful. Beyond that I didn't ask them for much help - I wrote my statements and written pieces with the help of people who know me very well (family and extremely close friends). I did receive strong letters of recommendation from BU faculty though, which may or may not have helped in the end. Hope that helps! Good luck to all of you.

My undergraduate GPAs are very similar to yours. I am currently trying to choose between the Tufts MBS and the BU MAMS. I was just wondering if you would do the BU program again and how much support you received in the admissions cycle? Congrats on getting into medical school!

My undergraduate GPA had an upward trend, so I focused on that and basically said it was the result of heightened maturity as I went through college. Considering that the classes I took in my masters program are medical school courses (they were mostly A-'s with one B that brought me down) I didn't really have to explain that one; schools thought it was decent. In my applications I didn't spend more than a sentence talking about my performance in college, and each time I did I made sure to highlight my graduate GPA.

I would greatly appreciate your input with this concern: How did you explain your low GPA in your personal statement and to the adcoms?

The main reason for my BU GPA was my biochem class - it was HUGELY rigorous compared to undergraduate coursework and I didn't adapt my study habits in time. That was the class that held down my GPA; otherwise I had an A- average. Also, many students do lab theses to boost their GPA's when something like that happens because that fluffs it with 8 credits of A. I still did the library thesis because I didn't want to keep giving them tuition.

why do you think you only got a 3.5 at BU? Do you have any advice for people looking to do well there?

Hey Good luck! I really hope you get in. Seems like UC Davis favors their own undergrads. They are so weird with their preferences! Hope it works out with them!!

Im confused by your two different GPAs. Is the BCPM GPA: 3.07 Overall GPA: 3.14 your undergrad GPA and the 3.53 GPA BCPM and 3.55 Overall your grad school GPA?
