I'm considering MD/PhD at the moment. I still have a year to decide and I'm taking into deep consideration.

Are you planning on doing MD/PhD? Otherwise applying Goldwater may not be the best idea as that scholarship is geared toward Md/PhD or PhD students only. Yet, I have seen students apply for it that do straight MD, which in my opinion is ridiculous. If I were an adcom, I would definitely dock them for that.

I don't think you need as many schools on your school list.

you don't need pubs. you need solid research and good lors from it for research-heavy schools. 1 year research used to only be a de facto req for md/phds..now it seems everyone and their mother is trying to pull a year of research out their anus. if you are going the reg md route, a year and at least 1 summer should be plenty fine, even if you want to continue in med school and beyond. if you get a balanced 35 or higher you should be very competitive at any school.
gl man. i'll be rooting for you, and i think we may be applying in the same year!

If you get a 1st author publication and get a 35+ on the MCAT, you will be extremely competitive for ivys. Avoid sounding arrogant in your personal statement and you should be golden.

It's looking like 38 is very feasible based on some diagnostics and a 40+ (which is what I'm aiming for) is possible.

If you do more research, your application should easily be competitive for top 10 schools. How are your diagnostic MCATs looking?
