I have mixed feelings about Michigan. One of my faculty interviewers was amazing, suggesting research I could get involved in, emphasizing the close relationships between faculty and students. My other faculty interviews were bizarre and a little off-putting. I think UM focuses too much on grades, MCAT scores, and the prestige of your undergraduate school. If you have that, UM will treat you well.

JHU was amazing. The students were super-friendly, the campus was gorgeous, and our interview day guides were inspiring (faculty member) and personable (student). If you want clinical excellence to be at the core of your career, JHU is your school, bar none.

I liked the city of Pittsburgh a lot (reminds me of NorCal), and the school has considerable resources for students. The medical school building's a little old, and I'm sad that Pitt canceled its merit scholarship program, but Pitt's still a possibility.

WUSTL was gorgeous, my faculty interviewer was friendly and clearly very accomplished, my interview group was chill, and the school provides a lot of resources. Students seemed a bit stressed.

Summary of Experience:
I liked (and have always admired) BU for its focus on underserved populations. I enjoyed my faculty interview here more than any other interview I had. The school itself (campus, research, hospitals) has a lot to offer, especially with the new BU president's push for integrating resources across all graduate programs. Offered $20K/year merit award.

Summary of Application Experience
A few tips:
1) Don't stress. The application season can be long. Especially if you're applying as a senior, remember to hang out with your friends and keep connected to your non-premed class.
2) Interviews are important. Sleep early the night before (harder than you think...).
3) Don't hide who you are or the challenges you've faced. We all come to medicine from different routes.
