Summary of Application Experience
I took the April MCAT with a 9 VR, 10 PS, 10 BS, M WR. Don't ask about the writing sample, maybe they couldn't read my writing or I didn't make it completely obvious what was the intro and conclusion.
Anyway, I submitted my primary apps in mid-late June and got a few secondaries before the AMCAS was even verified. (Talk about theft).
Once July came around and I had completed a majority of my secondaries that I received by that point (maybe half or less) I decided to take the August MCAT due to the 9 in VR, M in WR, lack of a 30 overall, and the factor that I knew I could improve having not studied as much as I would have liked. (Do not take 19 credits, TA, and work in the lab if you are taking the MCAT that semester in the middle of final exams. So I took the test and improved to the 10, 10, 10, Q breakdown by studying for longer and having multiple practice tests and many many more books from one of my good friends.
At that point I told select schools that requested it on their secondaries that I hadn't completed yet that I took the test in the hopes that they would review my application as is. I did eventually tell all of the schools before my score came in.
I was lucky enough to receive my first interview invitation from Drexel. They have a beautiful stand-alone campus and it was a good experience at the interview. However, in December they wait-listed me. Perhaps because I was already accepted at Wayne by December? You never know with this process.
By November 1, I had received an interview invitation to Wayne State. This was my top realistic choice, so I was excited about it. I had received a lot of rejections by November so I knew it would be my best chance. The interview was very relaxed and I had an internal medicine clinician in there to interview me. (That's my planned route at this point). So a week later was the call date for acceptances and I was accepted on that day.
It was pretty quiet until late January when I received an interview invitation from Rosalind Franklin who must have finally read my secondary application that must have tied in to what one of my professors told me she wrote about on my LOR. I decided to withdraw, because while I did want to visit Chicago for the sake of visiting, they scheduled it in late March and it was on a bad day for me. I would have asked them to make it during my break, but I decided against it and withdrew from the school while thanking them for their consideration.
Withdrew from St. Louis after receiving an interview invite for March/April and finally withdrew from Drexel after hearing nothing on the waitlist.
Will be attending Wayne State University in the Fall.
