  • Brief Profile: First off, I wanna say I'm thanking and trusting God throughout this entire process. It's been a long time coming getting to this point, and I couldn't have made it here without Him. I know good things are to come.

    Neurosurgery research assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital 1 year, 25 hr/week during school year and 40 hr/week during Harvard summer research fellowship program (no publication, was going to do a thesis, but my mom got sick and I had to balance being there for her and school at the same time)

    Psychology research assistant, 1 semester, 8 hr/week (got paid)
    Teach For America Corps Member*
    Director of mentorship program for low-income, African American high school girls. (mentor for 2 years, Director 1 year)
    Director of summer science program for low-income minority kids. (1 summer, 16 hr/week)
    Step team captain- 3 years
    Soloist in college choir- 3 years
    Worked as library assistant, custodian, and building manager during one summer to support myself financially as I volunteered.
    *Left early to be primary caregiver for my mom who has leukemia.

    Great story/personal statement (lots of obstacles that I had to overcome)

    In my app I really stressed how I am interested in community medicine/public health and mental health and working for underserved populations.

    AMCAS verified on June 20th (turned in app on the first day- June 10th)
    Took MCAT July 2nd- scores released August 6th.
    I was a little disappointed with my score. I was hoping for mid 30s, but I decided to go forward anyways and see what happens.

    Premed committee letter received by AMCAS on 8/16.
