I performed very poorly in the pre-reqs which really hindered my application despite having a strong upward trend in grades. I thought attending a competitive undergrad would help me out, obviously it didn't. Here is my GPA breakdown:
Freshman BCPM: 2.78
Sophomore BCPM: 3.05
Junior BCPM: 3.79
Senior BCPM: 3.91
I took the MCAT twice. The first time I scored a 32N (11, 9, 12) which I knew wouldn't be enough to make up for my sub-par GPA so I retook against advice and am glad I did.
WORK EXPERIENCE
I worked as a scribe for about a year which was my main clinical experience. The job paid poorly and the company I worked for treats people like cattle but if I had to do it all over again I would. I was also an MCAT instructor which was great leadership experience. I really enjoyed being a mentor for premies. I look forward to having this role as a physician!
VOLUNTEERING
I did some hospital volunteering (~100 hours) before I landed the job as a scribe. I also had some non-clinical volunteering with a project similar to Habitat for Humanity which I have been doing for years.
RESEARCH
I had no basic science research. I did some clincial research after graduating through the U of M hospital and got a poster and publication out of it.

I dont understand all the hate for RVUCOM. People are so uptight about it being "for-profit" which I dont really understand. The US is a "for-profit" county all in all so it didnt turn me off. Mare Island is just downright awful. I think I would be miserable here. The school really stresses OMM which is a big drawback for me. Withdrew after RVU acceptance.
