Factors that are important to me in deciding on a school: - friendliness and supportiveness of learning environment - safety of location - tuition, living costs, cost of attendance - research opportunities
---
8/21/2008 - Finished writing 23/30 secondaries so far.
9/12/2008 - I'm done with writing... for now at least. I decided not to finish the secondary for Rosalind Franklin, since I wasn't really attracted to the school after reading more into it's history as Finch/CMC.
9/17/2008 - Interview Invite from Creighton! I can't wait to see this school. It's supposed to be really underrated.
10/05/2008 - Rejected from UC Irvine. My ex-gf goes there though, so maybe it's better that we don't see each other :'(
10/14/2008 - My first acceptance, and it's from Western U! Hooray, I have somewhere to go next fall!
11/04/2008 - Just when I was losing hope, I got a Dartmouth invitation! I am so excited!
11/11/2008 - Acceptance from Creighton! Awesome school with very supportive and familial atmosphere. So stoked!
2/20/2009 - Acceptance from SLU! I really don't know what to do with SLU. It seems like a great school with a supportive environment, but I'm not sure if I would like to live in one of the most dangerous cities in the USA.
3/04/2009 - Invite from Temple. Awesome, but again, the safety factor concerns me. I'm not sure if I would go to this interview... I'm beginning to run low on cash too.
3/23/2009 - Rejection from Keck, and I'm assuming from UC Davis also since they stopped sending invites already. Looks like I'm going OOS for sure. Kind of relieved because I feel like I really need a change. I've been in Cali since I was born and haven't really gotten a chance to explore what's out there.
4/30/2009 - Finally rejected from Loyola Stritch. I am relieved that I won't have to be worrying about scheduling any more interviews.
5/6/2009 - I got kind of depressed lately thinking about the amount of debt that I will be in. Weighing my two options at the moment, SLU would be cheaper than Creighton by $10k/yr. Multiply that by 4 years and that's $40k in savings. I don't know if the money alone justifies going to SLU. Both schools are extremely expensive, but I think in the end I will have to go with my gut and take on the debt.
Looking at the four factors that I listed as important in deciding which medical school to go to, this is what I think so far:
- friendliness and supportiveness of learning environment (Creighton over SLU) - safety of location (Creighton over SLU) - tuition, living costs, cost of attendance (SLU over Creighton) - research opportunities (SLU over Creighton)
Such a tough decision.
5/14/2009 - Decided on Creighton. Pretty happy with the decision. I've met so many cool people from Creighton and I'm looking forward to starting in August.
