    Summary of Application Experience

    6/25/08: Transcript received by AMCAS

    7/09/08: AMCAS submitted at ~8PM

7/10/08: Received my first secondary invitation from Columbia. Essay is really similar to AMCAS!

7/14/08: Received U Chicago-Pritzker's secondary. For some reason I can't do these essays either

7/21/08: Received BU secondary. Piece of cake, but can't be submitted before AMCAS is verified

7/26/08: Finally finish the Columbia essay and submit my secondary

7/27/08: Send in my picture to Columbia via snail mail

7/31/08: AMCAS Verified!!! It was about time! I finally submit the BU secondary which has been sitting in their website complete for 10 days... So frustrating!

8/01/08: As if by magic, secondaries start coming in. Received Baylor, Cornell, U Penn, and Duke. I had been working on Cornell's, so I sent that one in. U Penn's didn't require any work.

8/02/08: Submit Baylor. Not entirely proud of my essay, probably should have waited, but I got so nervous about having so many secondaries in my inbox.

8/04/08: Received the most pointless e-mail from Emory informing me that they had received my verified AMCAS and that they would eventually send me their unscreened secondary. What a relief! =)

8/05/08: Finally completed U Chicago secondary essays. For some reason talking about being a good 'fit' was harder than I expected. It's not like I've never seen the school or anything!

8/06/08: Second wave of secondaries. Received invites from the University of Florida, NYU, and UVA. Vanderbilt informed me that they would let me know in 4-6 weeks whether I got an interview and that I would then receive the secondary. I submitted the U of Florida's application by snail mail. Who still uses the mail? For some reason it bothered me that they wouldn't be more environmentally friendly. Also, I got fed up with Harvard not sending me an invitation to their unscreened secondary, so I tried to log in using the address that I saw on Studentdoctor.com and it worked, so I submitted it. Maybe my impatience will come back and bite me in the ass, but come on! They don't screen! Yet another example of Harvard's bureaucracy hurting the little people, haha...

8/07/08: Receive the Harvard invite 8 hours after I submit my secondary... oops... Also received and submitted Mount Sinai secondary. Asked for a rec letter from my first lab experience freshman year for Harvard, and it's supposed to be mailed to AMCAS in one or two weeks. Their rule about having rec letters from every lab experience is such a nuisance! Baylor is a tease! I just received their informational packet that came in a huge envelope and I figured would be an interview invitation... Grr...

8/08/08: THE OLYMPICS!! Woo Hoo!! Also submitted NYU secondary. Took me a while to figure out what exactly an Academic Medical career was, thanks to SDN for the answer!

8/09/08: Submitted UVA secondary. I am very strongly considering withdrawing from Duke, which would mean that I am done with all of the secondaries that I have received... Anyone want to inspire me to take on the Durham Beast?

8/10/08: I AM BEOWULF! and tamed the Durham Dragon Duke (haha I love alliteration) and submitted their beast of a secondary. Probably not as good as some of the other secondaries I sent... but who knows? maybe I'll get an interview.

8/14/08: On a whim, I decided to apply to Hopkins

8/15/08: Submitted Hopkins Secondary. Heard that Harvard won't send my rec letters until next week... GOD DAMN IT, I want to be complete NOW!

8/16/08: Post picked up paper copy of my Hopkins secondary.

8/21/08: Received the secondary and invite interview from Vanderbilt.

8/24/08: VirtualEvals received my committee letter.

8/25/08: AMCAS received my LOEs. Go Harvard for sending the fucking letters 10 days later than they said they would. Cornell sent the complete e-mail. Complete at UVA. Funny, two of my favorite ones were the first to send me completion e-mails.

8/26/08: Complete at NYU, BU, Chicago, Penn, Mt Sinai

9/04/08: Received Emory secondary. Submitted Emory Secondary.

9/06/08: Received the Interview Invite from UVA for October 13. I have to teach that day, so I am hoping they can change it to a Thursday or perhaps a different Monday.

9/09/08: Changed my interview date at UVA to October 16. I am complete at the U of Florida and at Emory. Under review in Baylor.

9/10/08: Became complete at Columbia. Hopkins received my paper secondary (almost 25 days late, impressive mail system...).

9/16/08: Received interview invite to Mt Sinai. Complete at Harvard 20 days after my rec letters went in... Impressive record keeping on their part, huh?

9/18/08: Did a status check on the Pritzker website and found out that I was rejected... sigh... Es Muss Sein...

9/25/08: Interview invite to University of Florida

    9/29/08: Interview invite to Emory

    9/30/08: Interview invite to Harvard

10/01/08: Changed interview date at the University of Florida. Interview invite to Baylor.

10/02/08: Interview invite to U. Penn

10/09/08: Interview at Harvard. Nice interviewers, kind of a crappy tour. Interview invite to Columbia.

    10/16/08: Interview at UVA

    12/18/08: Acceptance into Mount Sinai

    12/23/08: Acceptance into NYU

    1/16/09: Acceptance into Hopkins

    1/20/09: Interview invite to Cornell

    1/22/09: Interview invite to Duke

2/21/09: Skype interview with Duke. Interesting experience. Don't know what I think about it yet: it's nice that it cost me nothing. But at the same time, I feel like there is no way that they are giving me the same level of consideration as someone who was actually there.

    3/05/09: Acceptance into Columbia

3/10/09: Waitlisted at Cornell. Withdrew from my position as an alternate.

    3/13/09: Acceptance into Duke

3/17/09: Rejected from Harvard. Kind of sucks to be rejected by your alma mater... oh well...

3/26/09: Accepted into Penn Med! I cannot believe the waiting is finally done! WOOHOO!!

3/39/09: Woodruff Scholarship at Emory. Full tuition. What a decision... Withdrew from NYU, UVA, Duke, and Mount Sinai.

4/03/09:Withdrew from Hopkins. I couldn't get over how much I hated Baltimore. Hopefully my spot will go to someone that will get really happy about it, but I couldn't ever have been happy there.

4/29/09: Withdrew from Emory and Columbia. I'm going to Penn!!!!!
