  • Application cycles: 2008
  • Demographics: Male, Caucasian
  • Home state: Pennsylvania
  • Brief Profile: The usual stuff...Tutoring, youth sports volunteer, lab research, varsity football, OR volunteer, shadowing, baseball and basketball officiating, an organic chemistry award, and the 2005 Lawrence County (PA) Athlete of the Year.

Quick public service statement for those like me. It can break your confidence if you get caught up in all the big talk about curing AIDS on some small Polynesian island. If it wasn't for scholarships I couldn't have paid for College. Just do something you enjoy. You need to shadow and that good stuff, but just do something that you like that you think makes you a better person. We all can't afford to fly to Hondoras to rescue an 11 month old from a guava tree, but anyone can go to a local elementary school and ask to be a field trip chaperone. Good luck to all!

    Summary of Application Experience

The primary app. is not all that bad. I would recommend submitting it ASAP. Also, if you have a chance to take graded 'Independent Study' courses, they are a great way to boost BCMP.

    Submitted: 6/17
    Processed: 7/1

This whole process seems pretty aweful when you are knee deep in secondaries and quickly running out of money, but, in all seriousness, enjoy the ride. Nothing beats submitting a secondary, even though you just dropped a Benjy on an application fee. It's a pretty cool experience interacting with big universities especially if you are like me and you went the small, liberal arts undergrad route. Hopefully by the end of the process my sentiments won't change!

10/29: First accept at U of I. Illinois is a great state. God's state, perhaps? (Torn between Rockford and Peoria)--(Chose Peoria)

    11/14: Drexel loves me, indeed.

11/20: SLU came through! Cancelled interviews at RFU, Creighton, and Albany to go along with my long-ago cancelled Dartmouth interview :-(

12/8: No love from PSU (waitlist). Unless the Miracle in Pittsburgh happens and they let me into Pitt, I am headin' west.

Sometime in last couple weeks: Put on WVU's waitlist. Not too odd being that I am OOS, but I tried to show interest and they wanted none of it--> or maybe they did, accepted off WL 12/12

1/28: Pitt waitlist (definately sending a letter of continued interest), Jeff said come on in, and I thanked them for it and methinks I may or may not be heading west now.

2/17: Glory, glory university of Toledo. A true diamond in the rough IMHO.

Late April: Dropped WVU, Drexel, and UIC acceptances for various reasons. Right now it looks like Toledo unless Pitt pulls through.

June: I'm going to Toledo. Loved it and I feel I fit there, I would recommend applying there to anybody
